Mengão perde o clássico
Em uma das duas partidas disputadas na noite de ontem (17) pelo Brasileirão Betano, Flamengo e Fluminense realizaram o clássico no Estádio do Maracanã e o resultado surpreendeu.
Despite fighting against relegation, Fluzão defeated the team coached by Filipe Luís and returned to beat the Rubro-Negro after over a year. The last victory had been in the 2023 Cariocão final, when they won 4-1.
That being said, one of the disappointments for the Flamengo fans on Thursday night (17) was the performance of Argentine Carlos Alcaraz. Acquired for over R$ 110 million, he has not yet been able to deliver for Mengo. It’s no wonder, Filipe Luís tried to explain the athlete’s moment in the post-game press conference:
“I can’t get into his head, but he’s a very interesting player, a guy who is a physical powerhouse, plays in various positions. He masters the midfield well and, of course, wants to show. He has that ambition to want things. Many times the process takes time. I will give him all the support to develop and gain the necessary confidence to perform,” said the former full-back in the press conference.
Mengão signings not “taking off”
Signed by the Mais Querido after seasons at Southampton (ENG) and Juventus (ITA), Alcaraz arrived with the mission of making Flamengo‘s midfield more dynamic.

So far, number 37 has played five games for the Rubro-Negro, only the first as a starter and playing the full 90 minutes. So far, he has scored only one goal (from a penalty) and contributed with another assist.
Decision on Sunday (20)
Finally, as the defeat left Mengão even further from the Brasileirão leaders, the match against Corinthians gained even more importance to save the season.
