Gustavo Scarpa, from Atlético-MG, mocked the penalty call for Flamengo against Criciúma

The bias towards Flamengo is back in Brazilian football. After the match between Flamengo and Criciúma, which ended with a 2-1 victory for the Rubro-Negro, several rivals decided to focus all attention on the penalty awarded to the beloved team. This was the case, for example, of midfielder Gustavo Scarpa, from Atlético-MG, who took to social media to comment on the incident.

Through Instagram, Atlético’s number 6 wrote: “man, what a joke”, trying to imply favoritism towards Flamengo. However, what the player showed was a lack of knowledge of the rules of the sport he plays. This is because, in situations where an object is thrown at the ball during play, the indication is for a direct free kick to be awarded.

Another curious fact is that when given the chance to do something against Flamengo, Gustavo Scarpa was unable to. After all, when facing the team in the Brasileirão, Scarpa’s Atlético-MG was defeated 4-2 at the Arena MRV. Feeling powerless, the player now turns to social media to try to target the beloved team.

Flamengo AIMING FOR THE LEAD, WHILE ATLÉTICO PLAYS A SUPPORTING ROLE

With 34 points, Flamengo returned to second place in the Brasileirão. Currently, with the same number of games, only Botafogo is ahead, with 36 points. Meanwhile, Gustavo Scarpa’s Atlético-MG is involved in a different battle in the competition. It’s no wonder the team is in a modest 11th position, with 22 points. The team is actually closer to the relegation zone (seven points above) than to Flamengo (12 points below).
